Created and organised since 1993 by the winemakers of the trade association Sudvinbio. A unique concept since then.

Each exhibitor has exactly the same equipment to present their wines: a table, two chairs, a white tablecloth, a spittoon, tasting glasses, ice and a display. This is a competition to judge and compare wines, not a competition on the exhibition techniques of wines! Here, all exhibitors are on an equal footing to present their products.

The stands are not grouped by region or appellation but randomly distributed. This feature of Millésime Bio is a deliberate wish of the organisers to promote encounters and curiosity. This may seem confusing at first, but the signposting and reception staff are there to guide you through your tasting journey.

The vast majority of exhibitors are able to present the newest of the vintages of the year.

Before the trade show, the organisers have strictly checked the compliance with legislation of all exhibits. The wines presented are all certified organic. Each exhibitor must provide copies of certificates of conformity with the organic production method issued by an accredited certification body for all the wines presented.

Welcome to Nova vas, a small village in the hinterland of Piran, and enjoy typical local products for two consequtive days.

The event offers an abundance of excellent wine, Istrian red garlic and other culinary delights. Villagers open their homesteads, show old customs and offer their own wine, garlic and homemade products. The event comprises culinary workshops, guided tours of the village, church and bell tower, and in the evening cool dancing at the typical village festivities.

The autochthonous Istrian garlic is recognizable by the red wrapper shell and large healthy pods. It holds an important place in Istrian cuisine, one of the biggest specialties being "peski", shoots of young garlic. They are prepared with frita (egg omelette), dried or salad. Garlic has always been considered to prevent atherosclerosis. Today, it is also known to be a natural antibiotic, because it acts anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral. It is considered to be a rich source of calcium, phosphorus and vitamin C. Novovorasians like to say that with the proceeds from the sale of garlic, among other things, in 1896, a church belfry was built.

To celebrate 26 years of history, there will be 5 days full of emotions and things to discover with friends: over 450 winemakers among the best of Italy and the rest of the world, almost 200 producers of culinary products and 15 prominent chefs. Expression of the best that our place has to offer, selected by the WineHunter Award Commissions.

Cooking Farm is the highlight of the new Chef Arena, where famous Italian chefs and master chefs will challenge the most traditional South Tyrolean countrywomen in the realization of traditional and innovational plates. Meanwhile, the Masterclasses will represent a variety of guided tastings of excellent national and international wines with the purpose to create culture and knowledge.
Another fast-growing sector of the last years will be one of the protagonists: during the Naturae and Purae, the best biological, byodinamic, natural, “orange” and PIWI wines (Disease-resistant wine varieties) will be presented on the opening day. As the highlight of the Merano WineFestival’s Grand Final, we will proudly present Catwalk Champagne, a display of over 250 champagnes by 80 french producers!

A battle so fierce that the vineyard and surrounding hillsides turn purple, so violent that the weary and wounded stumble away from the fighting covered from head to toe in what is, in fact, glorious and gorgeous red wine… This is San Vino Wine Fight Festival 2017, also known as La Batalla del Vino de Haro which takes place on 29th June.

The day starts at 7am with a procession of people old and young, locals and tourists, dressed in white shirts and red scarves, all carrying jugs, bottles, water pistols and other types of containers filled to the brim with sweet rogue wine. Led by the town’s mayor, the procession winds through the town to the cliffs of Bilibio, where a mass is celebrated. After the mass a true free-for-all wine fight begins, and we take advantage of a bottomless supply of red wine and throw it on and at each other, friends and strangers alike. What follows is a sea of wet, purple bodies everywhere. San Vino Wine Fight Festival 2017 is a sight not to be missed.

And then, when it’s all done, we wipe the wine off us and we head back down the mountain, pickled, as it were, in delicious red vino. At noon everyone rushes into town to celebrate at the Plaza de la Paz, the celebrations involve drinking, partying and running around a bull ring chasing frolicking heifers. That’s La Batalla del Vino or San Vino Wine Fight Festival 2017 in a nutshell.
